About the MIC and MIC Unitized Cables
Corning Cable Systems recommends MIC® Tight-Buffered Cable for building backbone applications. The specific cable
to be used will depend upon network architecture, the desired flame listing and fiber count requirements. MIC Cables
are listed for type OFNP (Plenum) or type OFNR (Riser) for use in Plenum, Riser or OFN (general purpose) applications.
Fiber counts range from two to 24 fibers for the MIC Cable and 24 to 144 fibers for the MIC Unitized Cable.

MIC and MIC Unitized Cables MIC® Cables are constructed by stranding the desired number of color-coded tight-buffered optical fibers around a
dielectric central member, applying a layer of strength member yarns and extruding a flame-retardant jacket over the
cable core. MIC Unitized Cables contain 24 fibers or more and employ a unitized design that consists of 6- or 12-fiber
subunits that are stranded together to form the cable. The MIC Unitized Cable provides additional mechanical protection
and allows for easy fiber administration during termination. Corning Cable Systems also offers MIC Cables with
interlocking aluminum armor. This armor provides superior crush and impact performance, as well as increased rodent
resistance. Interlocking armor is often a cost-effective alternative to installing rigid metal conduit and separately pulling cable. MIC Cables can also be used for Single User or Multi User Workstations.
